After serving its customer base from Hancock Kitchens, the owner of Muse Cheesecake is ready to take its operations to a brick-and-mortar, recently signing a lease for a space Downtown at 1150 E Street.

The company, owned and operated by Lada Sadovnyk, has secured a space on the ground floor of Broadway Towers to open its first official storefront, according to a recent announcement on Instagram. Now, Muse Cheesecake will have its own space to showcase its delicious Burnt Basque cheesecakes. Sadovnyk says in the announcement that they are working to open the doors as soon as possible but likely won’t open until September or October 2025. This is a massive achievement for the company and its owner, considering Muse Cheesecakes launched in January 2024 after Sadovnyk and her family immigrated to San Diego from Ukraine.

Burnt Basque cheesecake is a dessert from the Basque region of Spain that has gained worldwide popularity. Known for its creamy interior and caramelized, almost burnt exterior, it offers a unique blend of textures and flavors. Baked at a high temperature, the top develops a deep brown crust while the inside is soft and custard-like, described as “melt-in-your-mouth.” The cheesecake was created in the 1990s at La Viña, a bar and restaurant in San Sebastián, Spain, by chef Santiago Rivera. Initially just one of many desserts on the menu, it quickly became the restaurant’s signature dish.

“WE’RE FINALLY IN LEASE,” according to the announcement. “So, despite our busy schedule, the 10x increase in responsibility, and the fact that we’re about to take on a full renovation from scratch for the first time in our lives – we’re happy! Of course, we’ll do our best to open our doors as soon as possible, and of course, I’ll keep you updated on the progress. We also want to express our huge gratitude to our agent with steel nerves – Andrew Shemirani from [Flocke & Avoyer] and [Urban Strategies Group]- who helped us secure a much better space than we expected! And of course we’re super thankful to each and every of you for all your support and kind words in our first year in operations!”
