Wine and a good book to read is a pair that will be available in an upcoming Southeast San Diego bar
A liquor license application was recently submitted for Mvinyo Book Bar, coming to 6377 Imperial Avenue. This is on the south side of the Encanto neighborhood. As of now, owner Marilyn Harvey has not set an opening date for the new space.
The word “mivnyo” is Swahili for wine and spirits. From their website, the welcome excerpt explains the space is a destination for books, wine and “luxe vibes.”
“We chose this name to reflect the rich cultural expression of the various diasparas that make up the San Diego southwestern community,” says the description.
Harvey has experience working in education in Southern California, with a passion for wine on the side. Her project was initially announced in late 2023. What Now San Diego has reached out to Harvey and is awaiting comment.
Mivnyo has already participated in pop-up events near the new address, including an art show at Graffiti Gardens, 6785 Imperial Avenue. The owners describe their concept as a way to celebrate diverse cultures in Southeast San Diego, as well as a space for those seeking community. Those visiting their events can expect to be served local wines of California.
Mvinyo Book Bar is coming to the south side of Imperial Avenue, close to The Mental Bar- Coffee, Tea & Wellness. Going a little west, concepts nearby include Caribbean Taste, Sammy’s Mexican Bakery and Mr. Buffalo Fries. This is close to the Encanto/62nd St light rail station and about a 15 minute drive from downtown San Diego.
As of now, there are no updates on the opening of Mvinyo Book Bar. For more information, visit their website or Facebook page.
