Nick the Greek, a fast-casual restaurant serving traditional Greek street food, is preparing to expand further in San Diego with two additional locations.
The company has submitted applications to open in Clairemont at 5604 Balboa Avenue, Unit 105, replacing the former home of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, according to recent filings with the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. Nick the Greek is working on another location at 10550 Craftsman Way in 4S Ranch within the 4S Commons Town Center. Both applications are currently under review, and construction timelines have not been confirmed.
These would be the third and fourth Nick the Greek restaurants in the San Diego area. The first, located in downtown at 927 J Street, Suite 303, is currently operating, while the second, coming to Mira Mesa at 6765 Mira Mesa Boulevard, Suite 146, is awaiting final inspection. As previously reported by What Now San Diego, the San Diego expansion is part of a larger multi-unit franchise deal involving three locations in the area.
Founded in 2014 by three cousins in Northern California, Nick the Greek has expanded rapidly in recent years. The brand now operates more than 80 restaurants across seven states and is on track to hit 100 locations systemwide by the end of 2025. Its menu features traditional favorites like gyros, bowls, souvlaki, and loukoumades, with new additions such as the Mediterranean Steak Bowl reflecting the chain’s evolving culinary direction.
While ownership for the Clairemont and 4S Ranch locations has not been officially confirmed, the sites are expected to be part of the original three-store deal led by franchisees Gary and Mina Tully, who are also behind the Mira Mesa and downtown locations. Both Clairemont and 4S Ranch offer strong potential for fast-casual concepts, with high residential density and consistent retail traffic supporting demand for quick, high-quality dining options.
