One of Us, San Diego’s first women’s sports bar redefining the game-day experience by putting women’s sports front and center, is finding a permanent home for its first brick-and-mortar.
The company, owned and operated by Patricia Sebold and Kalani Millsaps, began after the two struggled to find a place that would play women’s sports with the sound on. The duo explored countless bars and breweries, only to be met with denied requests to put on the games that matter to them. Frustrated but inspired, they created the space we have been searching for—an energetic and elevated bar (without sticky floors) where women’s sports always take center stage. Currently, the company can be found at pop-ups across San Diego, but Sebold and Millsaps will soon find their permanent home. To help, the two have launched a crowdsourcing campaign. Millsaps tells What Now that they are in lease negotiations for a spot in North Park, and if all goes as planned, they will have a Fall 2025 opening. While female-oriented, One of Us will also show men’s sports.
“With One of Us Bar, we want to break the mold of the traditional sports bar,” according to the campaign. “We’re creating an atmosphere where every customer feels like they belong—a place where cheers echo louder, team spirit is celebrated, and every screen prioritizes the games that matter. Since our journey began, One of Us Bar has become so much more than a place to watch women’s sports. Our name says it all. “One of Us” is about community. It’s about being part of a shared passion, a bigger story, and a growing movement. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a newcomer to women’s sports, when you step into our bar, you’re not just a customer—you’re one of us.”
One of Us Bar seeks community support to upgrade and enhance its space. To raise funds for key improvements, the bar is focusing on three major areas: $50,000 for kitchen and bar upgrades, including new equipment like grills and coolers; $40,000 for TV and audio enhancements to improve the patron experience; and $60,000 for decor improvements to freshen up the space. Those interested in contributing can find donation options ranging from $25 for a limited edition shirt to $20,000 for exclusive perks like VIP tickets to local events and a two-year liquor locker. Donations can be made through the “Donate” link on the bar’s website.
Sebold and Millsaps are creating a unique space for sports enthusiasts with this concept. With a background in digital marketing and a passion for sports, Patricia’s vision for One of Us stems from her love for soccer and a desire to empower women in sports. Meanwhile, Kalani, a former athlete and seasoned professional in marketing and law, sought to build a sports bar that celebrates women’s games and provides a welcoming environment for fans. Together, they’ve crafted a space where women’s sports take center stage, creating an inclusive atmosphere to watch games, celebrate achievements, and foster community.
