The owner of Society, a bar, restaurant, and pool hall in Pacific Beach, is getting ready to expand with Society North in Escondido at 136 West Grand Ave.

Company owner Oved Haskal recently submitted a liquor license application to open in the former home of Barrel Republic in Central Escondido. The Israeli native purchased the 2,628 square feet of space last year, but few details were revealed about what would come of the space. Now, Haskal tells What Now San Diego he has also purchased the adjoining space and will open Society North in two parts, starting with the sports bar portion opening in about two months.

When the restaurant opens in early spring, it will be a sports bar with no additional games, unlike the original, which features plenty of pool tables and other fun games. The space will offer various beer and wine options and a full menu with shareable plates, burgers, pizzas, and more. The original Society’s kitchen is open until midnight, Tuesday through Sunday, and the bar offers a happy hour from Monday to Friday, offering $2 off all pints and wells. This first phase of Society North will likely feature the same specials.

Then Haskal will open the next-door space at 130 W Grand Avenue, in the former home of Windsor Corporation, with all of the games and entertainment found at the original location. Customers can expect plenty of pool tables, ping pong tables, arcade games, and more. The two spaces will compromise the entire Society North, which is scheduled to be completed by early 2025. This is the first time the company has expanded since its opening in 1989 when Haskal took over a former auto parts store on Garnet Avenue.
