A new restaurantPapa Guapo, is preparing to debut later this year in Old Town at 2541 San Diego Avenue.

The restaurant will open into the former home of The Living Room Cafe and Bistro, according to a recent liquor license application. Owner Konstantin Dubinin tells What Now San Diego he hopes to open in August, but confirmed the restaurant will be open by September 2025.

“Our signature concept is built around the humble potato,” Dubinin tells What Now San Diego. “Start by picking your base: a fluffy baked potato (split open and melted with cheese and butter), crispy French fries, or crunchy house-made chips. From there, customize your meal with your choice of protein — carne asada, grilled chicken, shrimp, or veggie — and top it off with optional add-ons like guacamole, roasted peppers, salsas, and house spices.”

This is an excellent location for the debut of Papa Guapo, which translates to “handsome dad” or “hot daddy.” Located in the heart of Old Town, the restaurant is situated along a bustling stretch of San Diego Avenue, renowned for its consistent foot traffic. It is just steps from Old Town State Historic Park, Heritage Park, and the Old Town Trolley stop, making it a convenient option for both visitors and residents. The new restaurant will surely become the perfect place to relax, offering a welcoming atmosphere complemented by a thoughtful selection of beer and wine.

“Enjoy beer and wine with your meal, and take in the relaxing Tulum-inspired interior: natural textures, soft lighting, and earthy tones that invite you to slow down and savor,” according to Dubinin. “Outside, our spacious deck offers shaded seating, breezy comfort, and chill-out music for the perfect casual dining experience.”
