Pazzo’s Pizza, a longtime Italian restaurant in Scripps Ranch, is preparing to launch a new, affordable concept called Pazzo’s Italian in Ocean Beach at 2163 Abbott St.

The new restaurant will move into the former home of Sugarlab Bakery & Desserts, which replaced Surfrider Pizza and Wild Things Pizza. Now, Anthony Vitale and his family are getting ready to bring affordable pizza back into the spot, with a soft opening scheduled for before the end of the month. Vitale tells What Now San Diego that while they are gearing up to open its doors in the next week or so, they plan to launch a full dinner service with alcoholic options next month.

Vitale and his family opened Pazzo’s Pizza in late 1993. The family’s delicious homemade pizza is inspired by their Sicilian roots, from where Anthony’s father, Vince, immigrated. Now, nearly 30 years after launching the family business, the Vitales are getting ready to open in the heart of Ocean Beach. Vitale tells What Now San Diego that the new location will offer pizza by the slice and other Italian classics, all at an affordable price.

“I am opening up as Pazzos Italian, where we’ll slowly expand our Lunch and Dinner menu and evolve it with Fresh, High-Quality grab-and-go, Fresh Pastas, and much more,” Anthony tells What Now San Diego. “The Menu, which will mix Sicilian, Italian, and California Nuvo-style food, will come from a collaboration of Family recipes and my 35 years in the industry. Although we share the same logo and parents, our menu, food style, and overall concept are evolving, and we’ll slowly be ushering in great, affordable new options for the ’North End’ of OB. We’re excited to serve Ocean Beach and all of San Diego and its Visitors.”
