Premier Pub, a soccer-focused pub, is getting ready to open in Rancho Penasquitos at 9995 Carmel Mountain Rd, Ste B2.

The new concept is set to move into the former home of Cheers Bar & Grill in the Plaza Rancho Penasquitos, under the ownership of John Reynolds, according to an interview with What Now San Diego. While the bar is currently open as a work in progress, Reynolds says the official brand launch is planned for New Year’s Day, with soccer matches, and a full grand opening will take place later in January. Customers can expect smash burgers, live music, and a community-focused environment. Reynolds, a San Diego resident for over 25 years, is a registered nurse with 25 years of experience who also owns an event center in Mission Hills and is a silent partner in Kiku Room, a Hi-Fi bar in Little Italy.

The Premier Pub concept will focus on soccer, particularly on upcoming events such as the World Cup and local SD soccer leagues. Reynolds emphasizes that the space will be different from a dive bar, saying, “We’re getting away from the dive bar, and we’re moving in a direction that’s, I’ll just say, pub.” He plans to remodel and rebrand the space, including patching holes, painting, and updating décor.

Menu offerings will center on Smash Burgers, with potential names inspired by soccer players, teams, or pitches, along with a secret menu and a future burger challenge. Music will feature live performances and DJs with an eclectic selection beyond top 40 hits, focusing on lesser-known songs or B-sides from established artists.

The location in Rancho Penasquitos offers a strong community connection for Reynolds, who wants to provide another space for soccer fans and families to gather, watch games, and enjoy food and music. He tells What Now San Diego, “We want the community at large to come. We want families to come. We want families to watch soccer. We want them to enjoy the burgers that we’re gonna make an all-around welcoming space.”
