A brand new concept called Aka is preparing to debut in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, located at 611 Fifth Avenue.
This is the latest from the San Diego Dining Group, led by Vincenzo Loverso and Alessandro Minutella. The latter recently submitted a liquor license application under Market Street Rooftop LLC to open in the former home of Lavo Italian and Searsucker. SanDiegoVille points out that Aka will be inspired by Buddahkan and Tao restaurants in New York City. Chef Takuya Kudo will prepare a menu of shareable plates, while mixologist Giancarlo Guttilla will create an extensive cocktail list.
This new concept is expected to be high-end like the group’s other concepts, which include Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, Saltwater, Rusticucina, and many more. Most recently, San Diego Dining Group opened Vincenzo’s Cucina in Little Italy, and the group has no intentions of slowing down its reach across San Diego. With this new concept, the restaurant group will have at least 11 restaurants throughout the city, all offering high-end meals made with quality ingredients. Aka is expected to open before the end of the year.
When the new concept opens in the Gaslamp Quarter, customers can expect a new Asian fusion restaurant featuring dishes with Chinese and Thai elements. There will be live music and entertainment inside the restaurant, while during the weekends, the concept will transform into a nightlife destination, according to SanDiegoVille. Despite the turnaround from two highly anticipated restaurants, this will be an excellent location for Aka, with plenty of foot traffic coming from downtown.
