San Diego’s popular An’s Dry Cleaning has again been named the best ice cream shop in the country by USA Today. Known for its gelato offerings and rotating menu of flavors named after fabrics, the shop will celebrate with a special offer.

An’s Dry Cleaning Wins First Place for Best Ice Cream Shop
Since opening its original location in 2018 at 3017 Adams Ave. in North Park, An’s Dry Cleaning has become one of the city’s most beloved ice cream spots. One testament to its popularity is the long lines of customers often seen outside the shop.
“The made-from-scratch gelato flavors at An’s Dry Cleaning are named after fabrics, like taffeta and twill, as an homage to the dry cleaning business that originally inhabited the historic 1934 building,” USA Today noted. “The rotating menu offers flavors such as mango and peaches, macadamia nut, and lavender with honey and oats.”
This marks the third time An’s Dry Cleaning has been ranked first among USA Today’s Best Ice Cream Shops 2025. In 2023, USA Today ranked it second. Last year, it rose to first place, and it has continued the streak in 2025.
An’s now operates three additional locations across San Diego. Its latest, An’s Electronic Repair in Ocean Beach, opened in April 2025. An’s Hatmakers in Del Mar and An’s Athletic Field Services at Petco Park also serve their signature gelato offerings. The locations are named after the businesses that were previously housed in the respective spaces.
An’s to Celebrate the Win with $1 Gelato
On Wednesday, the shop announced on Instagram that it will celebrate the win by offering $1 gelato on July 1 at An’s Dry Cleaning, An’s Hatmakers, and An’s Electronic Repair.
Customers can purchase gelato for a dollar while supplies last. The shop will close early that day to allow staff to celebrate with a team dinner.
The annual Readers’ Choice Awards were announced on Wednesday, June 18. The rankings are based on reader votes, with nominees selected by a panel of experts. According to the announcement, these shops were chosen for their use of high-quality, fresh ingredients and creative takes on the classic frozen treat.
