Local Mexican restaurant Senor Taquero is preparing to open a new location in San Diego, this time in La Mesa at 6903 University Ave.

The company’s third brick-and-mortar will move into the former home of Adalynes Chicken Shack near the Salvation Army Kroc Center, according to a recent liquor license application. There is no exact timeline for the opening, but it will likely open in Summer 2024. When it opens, customers can expect the same full menu found at the other location in Poway at 11385 Poway Road, featuring everything from tacos and burritos to breakfast and seafood options.

Senor Taquero originally opened up in Downtown San Diego at 435 Broadway before it closed and opened a new location in Poway. Now, owner Rafid Younan is getting ready to expand the business once again. While the owner confirmed the new location with What Now San Diego, additional details were not disclosed. The new restaurant will likely feature the same menu and specials, which get $5 to $100 off orders via a point system.

This will be a perfect location for the new Senor Taquero, considering a new dispensary is coming to the end of the block later this year. The restaurant’s new location will also be great for the surrounding businesses, including its next-door neighbor, El Cerrito Veterinary Hospital, and Motel 6 La Mesa across the street. Senor Taquero will have to compete with La Mesita Mexican Food and Burritos Santana for the best Mexican food on University Avenue.
