Stella Jean’s Ice Cream, a California-based small-batch ice cream shop known for its inventive flavors, locally sourced ingredients, and inclusive atmosphere, looked to be interested in opening a new location in Tierrasanta at 5950 Santo Road.

The company’s potential seventh area location appeared to be opening in a retail center located off the 52 Freeway, according to a recent submission to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality; however, the application has since been withdrawn. It’s unclear whether this location will open, but this move demonstrates the company’s continued interest in expanding within San Diego. Stella Jean’s Ice Cream recently opened a new location in South Park at 1517 30th Street, joining several other locations throughout San Diego, including University Heights, Point Loma, Pacific Beach, Kensington, and Carlsbad. The company also has two locations in Costa Mesa.

Stella Jean’s Ice Cream is renowned for its innovative menu, featuring both staple and seasonal flavors. Regular offerings include Madagascar Vanilla and Ube + Pandesal Toffee, while rotating options have included Pandan Pistachio and Black Sesame + Toasted Coconut. The shop also offers several vegan and gluten-free options, including Mango Sticky Rice. All waffle cones are made in-house using a blend of gluten-free flour, flax meal, and other plant-based ingredients. The ice cream is crafted with hormone-free milk sourced from Scott Bros. Dairy in Chino, California, and contains 16% butterfat.

“Stella Jean’s Ice Cream is a celebration of flavors from around the world, intertwining nostalgia with fresh, globally inspired tastes,” according to the company’s website. “Our freezers boast a selection of timeless mainstay flavors, always ready to satisfy your cravings. In addition, our sensational seasonal flavors rotate with the changing seasons, inviting you to savor new tastes from various corners of the globe. Leveraging our sister company, Pop Pie Co., Stella Jean’s Ice Cream was born of the same philosophy – great food, celebrated with valued friends and neighbors. We aim to continue our tradition as a business that believes in a strong sense of community that includes employees, patrons, and the cities we serve as a whole.”

Editorial Note: Stella Jean’s has since withdrawn its application for this location. It’s unclear if the company will proceed at this point.
