SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa, a chain restaurant from the Sushi Nozawa Group, appears to be looking into opening a new location in San Diego County.

The group, which has restaurants throughout Southern California and New York, appears to be looking in Little Italy and La Jolla to open a SUGARFISH but has yet to sign a lease, according to SanDiegoVille. Until the group finds the perfect location for its first San Diego site, the next closest location for the renowned sushi restaurant is Corona Del Mar. There’s no timeline for San Diego’s first SUGARFISH, but it will be the first time a Sushi Nozawa Group concept lands in the area.

Other restaurants under the Los Angeles-based restaurant group include KazuNori: The Original Hand Roll Bar and Nozawa Bar, both found in Orange County, Los Angeles County, and New York City. The first SUGARFISH restaurant opened in Marina del Rey in 2008 when Kazunori Nozawa and Jerry A. Greenberg founded the Sushi Nozawa Group that same year. Following the success of Marina del Rey, the restaurant subsequently expanded throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

“At SUGARFISH, you’ll experience sushi as Nozawa has intended, and you’ll find that we do some things differently,” according to the company’s website. “An important point about Nozawa-style sushi is his strict adherence to traditional sushi: You’ll find no California rolls, spicy tuna rolls, or teriyaki at SUGARFISH. Chef Nozawa believes the sushi experience should be pure and simple. We want to build on that foundation for our guests.”
