Chef Steve Brown is getting ready to bring back Swagyu Burger to Pacific Beach after having to close earlier this year, this time opening at 1146 Garnet Avenue, Unit A.

The beloved burger concept is planning to move into the former home of Lewis’itos and, before that, Calozzi’s Cheesesteaks, according to SanDiegoVille. Brown is expecting to open the new location early next year after having to close a location in the area a few months ago. At the time, Brown said he would transform the space on Felspar Street into a new concept dubbed Beach Bum Burger Bar. Swagyu Burger is now returning in a different location after only a few short months.

This isn’t the first location Brown is working on. On top of already having sites in Poway and Costa Mesa, Swagyu Burger is coming soon to Garden Grove, Barrio Food Hub, Garden Grove, West Los Angeles, and Westfield UTC mall food court, within Steel Craft, previously reported by What Now San Diego. Now, the restaurant will soon share a space with Grumpy’s Meatpies & Bread Bowls, between Above All Tattoo and Speakeasy Clothing Company.

Pacific Beach appears to be one of the fastest-changing areas in San Diego County, with new restaurants and retailers coming to the neighborhood what seems like every week. Recently, a new bar concept called bar Ella replaced the beloved Bub’s at the Beach, and Clément Le Déoré opened Desserts by Clement on Garnet in the former home of Freshii. While the area is perfect for restaurants and retailers, the rising rent has persistently been an issue for business owners. The new, smaller space will be more affordable for Brown, allowing him to keep the concept in Pacific Beach.
