A brand new restaurant called The Brick Bar & Grill is getting ready to make its debut in San Diego’s Rolando neighborhood at 6164 El Cajon Boulevard.

The new 5,470-square-foot bar and grill appears to be moving into the former home of Effin’s Pub & Grill, according to Intel obtained by What Now San Diego, which states its 10-year lease starts this month. Owner Sal Sardina confirmed with What Now that he was opening what he called The Brick but wasn’t willing to provide an opening date or additional details. Effin’s served the area residents and San Diego State University students for the past 24 years

Effin’s Pub was a beloved neighborhood bar described as a no-frills hotspot for students. The bar was founded in 1996 by William Gowen before being sold to Alison and Christine Binder in 2005 and then sold again to Zachary Cotler in 2010. Despite being popular with SDSU students, the restaurant struggled due to uncontrollable restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic and other financial hardships. Its last day of service was December 18, 2020.

While little is known about The Brick Bar & Grill, this will be a new venture for Sardina, who is the current president of Brick Construction and BRC Property Maintenance Company. The Patrick Henry alumni was previously the president of Appius Construction Company, specializing in commercial and residential buildings.
