A brand new family-owned brewery called The Roadies Brewing Co. is preparing to debut next year in Vista at 1495 Poinsettia Avenue, Unit 148.

Co-owners Diane and Sean Hilz are getting ready to open the brewery in the former home of Shred Hard Seltzer after it debuted less than two years ago as Kook Slams Hard Seltzer, according to San Diego Beer News. Diane confirms with What Now San Diego that the company hopes to open its doors in mid-March 2024. The name is a nod to Rancho Buena Vista High School’s color guard, which the parents were largely a part of while their daughter attended.

“The name The Roadies is very meaningful for us,” Diane tells SD Beer News. “Not only did the concept come from a wonderful time in our lives, but the parents we met became family and a community providing resources for us as we worked to start our brewery. Our small group of subcontractors that will build out the brewery are Roadie parents, and the rest of the parents from the group are excited for when we open.”

The new 5,328-square-foot brewery will sit in an industrial park at the intersection of Poinsettia Avenue and Corporate View. Before Kook Slams exited the building, the building was home to a hard-kombucha operation, Local Roots, and before that, Toolbox Brewing from 2014 to 2018. Now, the couple plans to keep its alcoholic roots alive by creating a Craftmaster Stainless 10-barrel, three-vessel brewhouse, offering various alcoholic options, including IPAs, lagers, red ales, kettle-sours, stouts, and hard seltzers.

“We knew we wanted to be in North County, but it took us a year and a lot of searching to find the right location,” Diane says. “We take great pride in bringing craft beer back to this location. It’s a very full-circle moment.”
