Tierra Mia Coffee Company, a specialty coffee retailer and roaster with 20 retail locations in California, is getting ready to open its first location in Oceanside at 1420 Mission Ave.
The company’s 22nd location, first in San Diego, is set to move into the former home of Burger King, according to documentation submitted to the Department of Environmental Health and Quality. This will be an excellent location for the drive-thru cafe’s debut, considering Tierra Mia Coffee Company will sit directly across from Ocean’s Eleven Casino. It’s unclear when this location will open, but customers can expect a variety of coffee and bakery options, all made in-house.
The plans of Tierra Mia Coffee Company are currently under review, but this marks a significant achievement for the business. It opened its first coffeehouse in March 2008 in South Gate. Since then, owner Ulysses Romero has expanded to over a dozen locations in Los Angeles County, three in Orange County, and one in Northern California. All locations serve delicious brewed coffee made to order using a pour-over method. Tierra Mia Coffee utilizes La Marzocco and Mazzer equipment for its espresso and creates beverages with artistic latte designs.
San Diegans have reason to be excited, as Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic Jonathan Gold, writing for the LA Weekly in August 2008, highly praised Tierra Mia Coffee. He described the company as a third-wave coffee concept offering “the world’s best beans.” Other notable publications that have featured the company include the Los Angeles Times, La Opinión, and Al Borde.
