The bar and restaurant developers Verant Group have recently turned over management of the 30th & University mainstay True North Tavern. Verant Group continues to manage Pacific Beach establishments like Tavern at the Beach and Mavericks Beach Club among others. True North’s new ownership team is well-versed in bar management, maintaining steakhouse joints Junction Bar & Grill in Scripps Ranch and El Cajon.
What Now San Diego spoke with new owner Ray Ibrahim about the takeover of True North Tavern. He confirms for their longtime North Park clientele that no big changes are being made to the overall look and theme of the laid-back bar. There are plans for adding a full kitchen, as the current space operates with limited capabilities to serve mainly bar bites. Kitchen construction hasn’t begun yet but is expected to be added in upwards of 4-5 months.
Overall, the new True North Team have few changes to make besides some interior updates. They intend to maintain its lively North Park vibe with regular weekend DJ sets and a variety of sports broadcasts. Keep updated with True North on Instagram as they roll out any future upgrades.
