After testing the San Diego market with pop-up events, Uncle Tetsu is planning their first location in Kearny Mesa. SanDiegoVille first reports Uncle Tetsu will join the Convoy Street plaza alongside Jasmine Seafood Restaurant and Mochinut.
Known for their Japanese-style cheesecakes, the global chain was founded in 1985 by Tetsushi Mizokami and has opened over 70 locations worldwide.
Panda Restaurant Group, the creators of Panda Express, brought the Uncle Tetsu concept stateside and have opened locations in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Orange County.
The fluffy, souffle-like cheesecakes are said to be lighter than the classic American style and come in a variety of flavors like Original, Chocolate, Ube, Strawberry, Matcha, and Coconut Pandan.
What Now San Diego has reached out to the team at Uncle Tetsu US for an update on their newest Kearny Mesa location. According to permit filings, construction looks to be underway to turn the former retail space into an operating bakery. No word yet as to when Uncle Tetsu will open doors on Convoy.
