Health officials conducted a routine inspection at Mongkok Dim Sum & Restaurant on July 1. A inspector with San Francisco’s Environmental Health Branch visited the restaurant on Tuesday.. The restaurant was ordered to close due to rodent activity and may reopen following pest control and department approval.

The inspection revealed inadequate handwashing practices. The sink was blocked by items stored inside. The violation was corrected on-site. The restaurant must gain written approval to implement a Time as a Public Health Control (TPHC) system, which regulates food safety based on timing.

The inspector noted a lack of sanitizer solution upon arrival. All food contact surfaces must be thoroughly washed and sanitized. Rat droppings were found on the exhaust hood and beneath the refrigerator. Rodent droppings were also present under the warming units and on the dishwashing machine.

Live and dead flies were found on the metal shelving. The facility must eliminate any infestation of cockroaches, rodents, flies, or other pests using approved methods. Raw pork was left out to thaw at room temperature in cardboard boxes.

Inspectors found food prep taking place outdoors, with items left on the floor and stairway. The facility must separate food properly to prevent cross-contamination.

Follow-Up Requirements

The inspection concluded with the temporary closure of the restaurant. The health permit was suspended, requiring the facility to cease all food operations. The restaurant is prohibited from removing or obstructing the closure notice. To resume regular activities, the facility needs to produce proof of professional cleaning followed by pest control service.

The establishment staff can contact the department to request a follow-up inspection. Following reinspection, the restaurant may be approved to resume operations.
