During an inspection on February 23, the Sanppo Restaurant was flagged for several health code violations by the San Francisco health department. The restaurant was recommended to shut down as a result.

Sanppo Restaurant serves sushi and custom maki rolls, along with tempura and teriyaki. According to the report, the restaurant was cited for violations like:
- A food safety manager certificate was not available at the time of inspection. The facility was instructed to provide the certificate within seven days.
- Raw shelled eggs were observed at 49°F on a food prep table. The person in charge stated the eggs had been out for less than one hour. Eggs were relocated to the refrigerator during the inspection.
- Sushi rice was observed at room temperature for more than two hours without a TPHC label. The operator labeled the sushi rice during the inspection.
- The report noted that a yellow/black mold-like substance was seen inside the ice machine, with water dripping and adulterating the ice. The operator discarded all ice and began cleaning and sanitizing the ice machine during the inspection.
- No sanitizer solution was present at the time of inspection. The facility had been operating for less than two hours. The operator prepared a sanitizer solution at 100 ppm bleach during the inspection.

- The report said that severe rodent infestation was observed, including numerous droppings near the water heater, on food countertops, shelves, ceramic plates, under the three-compartment sink, and along walls throughout the facility.
- Wet wiping cloths were observed on the food prep table. The operator relocated the wiping cloth to a sanitizing solution during the inspection.

Follow-up Inspection

According to the report, Sanppo Restaurant had its health permit suspended during the health inspection. The eatery can request a reinspection once it has corrected all the violations to open again.
