Health inspectors observed significant rodent activity throughout the restaurant. Evidence of rodents was found in multiple areas, including the bar floors, behind the cookline, beneath food preparation tables, and inside food containers and buckets.
The report also noted rodent activity in the ware washing area (on the floors and atop the dishwasher), on trays holding cleaning products, and in the attic, both on the floors and on the bottom level of shelving. The employees were asked to discard contaminated foods observed under the food preparation tables.
They were also asked to obtain the services of a licensed pest control operator to inspect and treat the facility for rodents. Three holes were observed in the attic wall and ceiling near the piping located at the top of the attic, adjacent to the stairwell.
Inspectors said repairs must be made with approved materials to properly seal openings and prevent pest entry. The restaurant was asked to repair the dishwasher and all malfunctioning refrigeration units to ensure proper cold holding at 41°F or below, deep clean, degrease, and sanitize the facility premises and all food contact surfaces.
Follow-up Inspection
El Rey Taquiza Artesanal may request a follow-up inspection once major violations are corrected. The health department has asked the restaurant to send a copy of the pest control report when requesting a reinspection.
