The groundbreaking ceremony for Heritage Park, San Francisco’s latest public green project, will take place soon at Bishop Ranch. Sunset Development Company will lead the ceremony this week.
Nestled in the heart of Bishop Ranch, the new green space is the first of the 50 unplanned parklands and open spaces for the area. The park is expected to open to the public by the end of 2025.
Artwork and Family-friendly Amenities at the Green Space
The 1.4-acre land sits at Bishop Ranch’s CityWalk BR1A and is near the recently opened Belmont Village senior living community. Amenities will include a tree-lined promenade, picnic grove, and open lawn space for gatherings. Heritage Park will also provide a tribute to San Ramon leaders, from whom the green project derives its name.
San Francisco’s newest green project intends to transform the East Bay community into a walkable neighborhood. Its signature feature includes Bishop Ranch’s first folly. The site-specific, permanent artwork is designed to engage visitors of all ages.
Funded by Sunset Development Company, the inaugural folly at Bishop Ranch is the start of a $20 million public art program. Future follies of varying scale and design will be integrated throughout Bishop Ranch’s parks and public spaces. This will help foster creativity and innovation at Bishop Ranch while celebrating the past.
Created by artist duo Rosario Marquardt and Roberto Behar, The Little Big House will take the form of an oversized, interactive playhouse.
“Heritage Park is the next step in our vision to create a vibrant, people-first neighborhood,” said Alex Mehran Jr., president and CEO of Sunset Development Company.
“Heritage Park marks the debut of our public art program as we work to create an enduring and evolving world-class destination for the arts, one that reveals, reinforces, and elevates Bishop Ranch’s identity and sense of place,” Mehran Jr. added.
