Standard Fare of Berkeley is permanently closing its doors as the dynamite head chef, Kelsie Kerr, announced her retirement.

Standard Fare, a longtime local favorite, will close its San Francisco restaurant on December 19 after 11 years of operation, as head chef Kelsie Kerr is set to retire.

Standard Fare to Close as Chef Kelsie Kerr Retires

Founded more than a decade ago, Standard Fare became known for its Saturday brunch service and neighborhood-friendly vibe. This December will mark the restaurant’s final month of service.

The restaurant announced the closure in an Instagram post. The post mentioned, “Standard Fare will bid you all farewell. Our last day will be December 19th, and we look forward to seeing you.”

Chef Kelsie Kerr opened Standard Fare in West Berkeley in 2014, bringing decades of culinary experience to the project. On the Instagram post, Chef Kerr shared the news of her retirement by the end of this year.

She wrote, “It has been a real delight to feed and get to know you as the seasons rolled by. The team, past and present, has been amazing as well.”

News of the closure prompted messages of support from longtime customers. Several loyal patrons shared memorable moments and heartfelt messages.

One customer wrote, “Omg, we are beyond shocked and sad to hear this. And truly feel so emotional and cannot believe it … Though rationally we are happy that it’s a decision to retire, and congratulations on moving to the next chapter.”

Another fan of the restaurant wished the best to the restaurant and praised chef Kerr for her years of dedication and said, “Sending love to you and your family, Kelsie!! We will miss you.”

Kerr’s retirement marks the end of Standard Fare’s 11-year run in the Bay Area dining scene. The restaurant will remain open through December 19 for customers who want to visit before it closes.
