After 30 years of service, Eat Americana is shutting down its Outer Richmond district location. The restaurant announced in a social media post that it will shut down this weekend. The sudden closure comes as the owner steps away to focus on health.
Eat Americana Closes After 3 Decades Due to Owner’s Health
A neighborhood favorite in San Francisco, Eat Americana is preparing to close its doors for good. The classic American diner will end its three decades of service and will serve its final meal on April 12.
The team behind the restaurant shared an emotional note to its customers and said, “It is with a heavy heart, yet a spirit full of gratitude, that we announce Eat Americana will be closing its doors for the final time on April 12, 2026.”
In the closure announcement, the restaurant team explained, “Due to health considerations, it is time for the owner to focus on recovery and rest. While it is difficult to say goodbye to a place that holds three decades of memories, we know it is the right time to begin this new chapter.”
Tony Lai opened the diner as Americana Grill in 1996, serving Vietnamese and Italian dishes before it was rebranded as Eat Americana in 2016. Over the years, the restaurant became a popular diner with its warm and casual atmosphere.
Under the direction of Chef James Moisey, the restaurant offers classic American comfort food like breakfast burritos, pancakes, salads, sandwiches, and a variety of burgers.
Community Shares Tributes Across Social Media

As the closure announcement was shared, messages of support and appreciation flooded social media. Several loyal customers shared cherished memories and words of encouragement for the restaurant.
One of the fans wrote, “Tony & Lan, I’m so grateful for the memories I’ve made at Eat Americana. Your restaurant has been a staple in my life for so long, and I’ll miss it dearly. From the iced tea with extra lemon to the mouth-watering dishes like chicken-fried steak and veal cutlet, every meal has been a delight. Congratulations on an incredible 30 years, and I wish you all the best!”
“Wishing you the best, Tony! Will miss the Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. Will come by this weekend to say farewell,” said another fan.
As the final day approaches, the team expects to celebrate those last moments with the community. The Eat Americana closure will leave a lasting mark on San Francisco’s dining scene.
