Grain D’Or at 236 Clement St. in Inner Richmond has been closed since the pandemic and it looks like the space will finally be taken over by a new restaurant in the coming months. The new owners have applied for a beer and wine license at this address and while they declined to give away any details at this time, they did tell What Now San Francisco that they will likely be ready to open in 2023

For its part, Grain D’Or was a very popular neighborhood bakery and cafe in its heyday. It was a great spot to pick up fresh pastries and coffee in the mornings, as well as sandwiches and salads to enjoy inside the clean and cute cafe during lunch breaks.

That said, the business received mixed reviews in its final months, citing inconsistent service and messed up orders on a regular basis. Given that the food was pretty decent, folks who experienced these fallbacks at Grain D’Or a first time were compelled enough to give the cafe the benefit of the doubt, though were often disappointed to return and receive the same low level of customer service.

Hopefully this new restaurant will surpass Grain D’Or in the hospitality sector and have even better food to boot. Representatives for the new business said that more information will be forthcoming this fall. Stay tuned.
