San Jose’s Michelin-starred Adega — a high-end Portuguese restaurant founded by Carlos and Fernanda Carreira — will permanently shutter at the end of the year, according to a video posted to the eatery’s Instagram earlier this week.
Carlos Carreira tells What Now San Francisco that while he and his wife and co-owner will continue operating Adega through December 16, the pair are planning to replace the fine dining establishment with a second location of its sister concept, Petiscos — an eatery known for offering a more casual, Portuguese tasca-inspired experience.
While Adega, San Jose’s first Michelin-starred restaurant, will be missed by locals, its replacement should fill its shoes nicely. Founded in 2020, Petiscos has already earned itself a spot on Michelin’s Bib Gourmand list as of last week.
The Petiscos menu, which Carreira says will remain the same across both the flagship and upcoming locations, consists of smaller, sharable plates of traditional Portuguese dishes such as oven-roasted octopus, duck rice, and garlic shrimp — and Adega chef David Costa and Sandra Murillo will continue to be involved.
Petiscos is slated to open by early 2024. Follow the eatery on Facebook and Instagram for additional updates.
