Bartavelle Coffee & Wine Bar is moving on to a bigger and better space, but locals won’t have to worry about finding the new location. The new space is at 1621 San Pablo Ave. in Berkeley, right next door to their current pick-up window.
Our source comes in the form of a pending liquor license recently filed with the State of California, while the business teased the news of their move via Facebook in late October. Based on this timing, it’s likely that Bartavelle will debut their new digs as early as the New Year.
Bartavelle has been in business for nearly a decade, starting out in the former Cafe Fanny. When the lease was up on that space, they transferred to a prep kitchen on San Pablo Avenue, operating a to-go window throughout the pandemic with much success.
As restaurants slowly reincorporated dine-in over this past year, Bartavelle was unsure about how they would do the same for their customers. “Having a place that we could do a little bit more would be a wonderful thing,” owner Suzanne Drexhage told East Bay Express earlier this year.
Now that a bigger space has come to fruition, more customers will be able to enjoy Bartavelle’s breakfasts and lunches on site. They are known for serving up Heart Roasters coffees and delicious pastries created by pastry chef Nellie Stark.
They’ve also recently started a wine bar pop-up called Bar Sardine, serving wine and small bites on Thursday and Friday evenings out of their current space. Now, Bartavelle will be able to do all this in a bigger place to call home. The owners have been contacted but have not responded at the time of publication.
