Berkeley’s Rasa Caffe, known for offering “California’s first unique, award-winning ‘East meets West’ coffee and tea menu,” is relocating to Oakland, according to a recent Instagram post written by its owner, Rasa Mott.

“I grew up in an environment in Oakland in which eating well and feeding people are very important,” Mott shares.

He continues, “As we readjust into a new location, we hope to bring the same quality to Oakland as we did to South Berkeley. We loved being part of our Berkeley community for ten years. However, unfortunate circumstances allowed us to sincerely reevaluate what is best for Rasa Caffe, my co-workers, and myself. I want to thank all our local regulars throughout the years who have supported us and can’t wait to see us again! I also would like to welcome the community of Oakland to stop by!”

Coming to 411 13th Street, the concept will take over a ground-floor space at the Tribune Tower that previously belonged to Modern Coffee — near establishments such as Golden Lotus, Mystical Mixes, and the bar Radio.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the concept, Rasa Caffe was founded in 2013 and blends “elegant organic spices of India and the Asian and African diaspora together with classic specialty coffee standards,” according to its website.

On the Rasa menu, Oakland residents can expect to find specialty drinks such as the “award-winning” Rose Latte and a house-made Rasa Chai Blend, alongside a selection of baked goods.

Mott shares that Rasa Caffe in Oakland is slated to open in January 2024. Follow the cafe on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
