Financial District regulars may have come across Cafe Med, a popular weekday lunch romp that served buffet-style pastas and salads, plus made-to-order burgers and sandwiches. According to Google, the restaurant at 201 Pine St. is “temporarily closed” and come to find out, this is because the spot is taking on a new concept.

Rafik Bouzidi, who owns La Marsa in the theater district, has partnered with his uncle to revamp the former Cafe Med. Bouzidi tells What Now San Francisco that the new restaurant is called Dar Fatma and adds that it will specialize in Tunisian cuisine

Located on the northern coast of Africa and bordering the Mediterranean Sea, Tunisia boasts a distinctly spicy, yet flavorful cuisine that still waits to be discovered by western tastebuds. A blend of Mediterranean and desert dwellers’ culinary traditions, expect the working menu to include dishes centered around harissa, a hot chili paste that is prominent in Tunisian cooking.

Bouzidi says that while the finishing touches are being nailed down at Dar Fatma, the new restaurant is expected to open within the next few weeks. Keep an eye on this corner restaurant at Pine and Battery for its eventual opening. We will update this post with a website and social media once they’re available.
