According to a recently submitted permit application, a new restaurant listed as Cafe Rio is gearing up to open in Berkeley.

Coming to 2066 University Avenue, the eatery will land near establishments such as Asha Tea House, Berkeley Social Club, and Imm Thai Street Food.

What Now San Francisco reached out to the concept’s owner, Roy Nowrouzi, to inquire about the restaurant, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

Nevertheless, a business named Cafe Rio already exists at 2146 Center Street and describes itself as a “counter-serve eatery dishing up Mexican classics including hand-rolled tortillas, burritos & tacos.”

An opening date has not been announced yet, so stay tuned for updates.
