Capo 29, an upscale Italian restaurant concept from veteran restaurateur Bruce Marder, is preparing to open a new location in St. Helena at 61 Main Street.
The company’s new location is expected to replace Golden Harvest Restaurant later this year, according to a recent liquor license application. The new location will offer an expanded menu, a deep wine list, and a fine dining experience modeled after Capo Santa Monica, which has operated for over 25 years.
Capo 29 is the latest in a long line of restaurants from Marder, who began his culinary career in 1972 and currently operates Capo, Brentwood Restaurant and Lounge, Cora’s Coffee Shoppe, and The Rooster in Santa Monica. His past concepts include West Beach Cafe, Rebecca’s Restaurant, and DC-3, which were instrumental in shaping California’s restaurant culture in the 1970s and 80s.
Executive Chef Ricky Moreno, who has worked with Marder for over three decades, is expected to be involved with Capo 29. Moreno previously led the openings of Cora’s, Marvin, and House Cafe, and currently oversees the kitchens at Capo and Marvin. Capo 29 is positioned to extend the group’s signature approach to Napa Valley, pairing high-end Italian cooking with thoughtful hospitality and curated interiors.
The menu at Capo 29 will feature house-made pasta, grilled seafood and meats, as well as luxury ingredients such as truffles, Wagyu beef, and caviar. Signature dishes include Bucatini Lamb Ragu, Tecumseh Pollo Roti Tartufo, and Fiorentina for two. Gluten-free pasta will also be available in limited quantities.
The restaurant’s wine list includes over 2,500 labels and 24,000 bottles, drawing from top global producers. Capo Santa Monica has earned the Wine Spectator Grand Award of Excellence for 11 consecutive years, a standard Capo 29 aims to meet. The space will also feature original artwork and refined tableware, aligning with the brand’s emphasis on presentation and experience.
