Chef Edward Wooley, known for serving up “soul fusion” cuisine throughout Oakland, is opening a new brick-and-mortar restaurant on the east side.

Chef Smelly’s, named after a moniker of Wooley’s, is set to begin dishing out Creole fare at 10801 Bancroft Avenue — near eateries such as Ben’s Burgers, Hanami Japanese Restaurant, and fast-casual spot Happy Hot Dog.

In line with his existing concept, Smelly’s Authentic Creole and Soulfood, at 2430 Broadway Street in Oakland, the menu will boast po’boy sandwiches, seafood plates, salads, and burgers.

Wooley shares that the menu is still being developed and adds that though it “will be small, it will offer “plenty of variety.”

“I know people are going to want crab, so I think I’ll probably sneak it on the menu,” he tells the San Francisco Chronicle

Chef Smelly’s is slated to open this summer. In the meantime, follow the upcoming eatery on Facebook for additional updates.
