Chubby Skewers, a Northeastern Chinese barbecue chain, is preparing to open a new location in Fremont.
While an exact address has not been announced, the company confirmed expansion plans for the city, according to the Chubby Skewer website. The company’s Fremont location is still in the early planning stages, and an opening date has not yet been determined. A company representative tells What Now San Francisco, “Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact timeline yet — the Fremont location is still in the early planning stages.”
Customers can expect interactive, semi-self-service grilling with a variety of skewers, including Wagyu beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetables. The restaurant offers a lively, late-night dining atmosphere inspired by Northeastern Chinese street culture.
Chubby Skewers is the first U.S. branch of the popular Chinese barbecue chain, which operates more than 100 locations across China. The brand specializes in authentic Northeastern-style barbecue, aiming to introduce this regional cuisine to a global audience. The concept combines quality ingredients with a casual and social dining experience tailored to younger diners.
The Fremont opening is part of a broader U.S. expansion that includes upcoming locations in San Gabriel, California, Flushing, New York, and Chicago. The chain’s motto, “Toast to Happiness, Look Forward to a Beautiful Life,” reflects its goal of providing a relaxed and enjoyable setting for guests to share meals.
Chubby Skewers’ menu centers on a semi-self-service skewer bar featuring a wide selection of meats and vegetables. Guests can customize their barbecue experience, complemented by a selection of hot and cold dishes. The interior design combines industrial elements with street-market aesthetics and neon lighting, enhancing the energetic dining environment.
This Fremont location is positioned to serve a diverse and growing community interested in innovative Asian dining concepts. The city’s increasing demand for unique culinary options and vibrant food scenes makes it a fitting choice for Chubby Skewers’ continued growth in the U.S.
