According to a recently submitted permit application, Sam’s — a Broadway burger joint that’s been around since 1966 — appears to be expanding.

Currently located at 618 Broadway, the eatery has applied for a beer and wine license for the neighboring address, 620 Broadway — the former home of Panuchos and Tacorea.

What Now San Francisco contacted the owner of Sam’s, Emad Elshawa, to inquire about plans for the additional space, but he could not provide further information before publication.

For readers who are unfamiliar with Sam’s, the burger diner rose to fame when Anthony Bourdain declared the eatery “Top 3 in the World” on his show, The Layover, according to the Sam’s website.

The eatery is known for burgers stacked high with toppings such as bacon, fried eggs, mozzarella sticks, and, of course, lots of cheese and beef.

An opening date has not been announced yet, so follow Sam’s on Facebook for updates.
