A new Indian restaurant is landing in the Mission. India’s Chaat House, a small, casual restaurant specializing in Northern Indian street food and Nepalese food, is expected to open this summer at 3273 22nd Street, between Valencia and Bartlett Streets.
Paul Sroa, whose son, Navjot Sroa, co-owns the restaurant, says that in addition to street food from all over India, India’s Chaat House will also serve fan favorites, like Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer. His family owns the neighboring Indian grocery store, Indian Spices and Groceries, and they plan to service the restaurant with ingredients from the store.
“It’s very common in Indian communities to have the grocery store and the connecting restaurant or deli,” says Sroa, whose family has also been running Lotus Cuisine of India in San Rafael for 25 years. “This way, people can do their shopping and have a good meal.”
India’s Chaat house will have both indoor and outdoor seating, and is expected to open by the end of July. Head to the grocery for some authentic Indian spices, then grab a seat at the new restaurant to try their take on Indian street food.
