According to SFist, a new Italian-Japanese restaurant, CIAORIGATO, is opening this June in Union Square.
Coming to Hotel Bijou at 111 Mason Street, the concept will land near establishments such as the Thai food restaurant Kin Khao, Taylor Street Coffee Shop, and the American restaurant The Melt.
The concept’s co-founder, Dario Nicotra, tells What Now San Francisco, “After ten years of success with Acquolina in North Beach and the recent, exciting launch of MODI, our Italo-Mexican concept at the Salesforce Transit Center, we’re now introducing something completely different — a bold fusion of Italian and Japanese cuisines, where technique, storytelling, and creativity converge.”
“Created together with Chef Marco Avila, whose roots span from Tuscany to Cancún, CIAORIGATO is a culinary journey that blends the soulful warmth of Italian cuisine with the elegance and precision of Japanese flavors,” the statement continues.
On the menu, locals can expect to find dishes such as the MareMiso Maltagliati (made with maltagliati pasta, clams, rich miso broth, seasonal mushrooms, tempura prawn, leek, and togarashi crumble), the Gamberi & Burrata sushi roll (filled with shrimp, creamy burrata, avocado, and lime zest), and the Matcha-misù (a matcha tiramisù with white chocolate mousse and mascarpone cream).
“More than just a menu within an elegant art-deco venue, Chef Marco has crafted a concept designed to surprise, to celebrate cultural harmony, and to offer something truly fresh to the Bay Area dining scene. Here, Italy meets Japan in a vibrant, soulful fusion,” shares Nicotra.
CIAORIGATO will hold its grand opening on June 18.
Nicotra adds, “This opening is more than a restaurant launch, it’s a celebration of cultural diplomacy, international friendship, and San Francisco’s resilience.”
