It has long been known that a Jollibee plans to take over the former Payless Shoesource next to the Powell Street BART station. In early 2021, signage for the Filipino fast-food chain went up in the windows at 934 Market St.

This month, however, it has been reported that the space has been broken into and signage for Jollibee has gone missing. Whether or not there is correlation between the vandalism and the sign removal, many locals believed that Jollibee has pulled out of the location and was no longer coming to the area.

Fortunately, the Chronicle recently confirmed with Jollibee representatives that the chain still plans to set up shop at this address in downtown San Francisco, adding that they plan to open in 2023.

Jollibee is known for their “crispylicious, juicylicious” Chickenjoy fried chicken and Filipino-style Jolly Spaghetti, though they also have a selection of burgers, sandwiches, and more. Visit www.jollibeefoods.com to find out where in the Bay Area you can already find them.
