Kaiyo Rooftop is a new cocktail bar coming to the 12th floor of the Hyatt Place Hotel in SoMa, Eater SF reports. The 3,300 square-foot rooftop is being fashioned into a chic, green and blue sanctuary that will host expansive views of the San Francisco skyline. Kaiyo Rooftop will debut in mid-January 2022, ahead of a second Kaiyo restaurant on the ground floor later in the year.
The concept is brought to us by John Park of Brick x Brick Hospitality Group, who debuted Kaiyo in 2018 on Union Street. The restaurant specializes in Nikkei-style Japanese-Peruvian cuisine. Nikkei is a term for Japanese immigrants and their descendants that reside in a foreign country.
Kaiyo Rooftop will feature “Nikkei-inspired cocktails,” many of which you might be familiar with if you’re already a regular at Kaiyo. There will also be 10 sakes available by the glass, a Toki Highball Machine from Suntory, as well as a selection of Japanese beers and whiskeys.
Chef Alex Reccio plans to serve some familiar dishes at the rooftop lounge and bar, but what’s even more exciting are plans to introduce a custom yakitori cart which will serve Japanese yakitori and Peruvian anticucho. For updates on the official opening, follow Kaiyo Rooftop on Instagram.
