Kava Indian Cuisine, a fusion restaurant specializing in Indian and Nepalese cuisine, is set to open in San Francisco at 2151 Lombard Street.
The new restaurant is owned by Kamal Kandel, who also operates Yarsa Nepalese & Indian Cuisine at 1310 Grant Avenue, according to a recent liquor license application. Kandel tells What Now San Francisco that the restaurant will introduce a blend of Indian and Nepalese dishes. While an exact opening date has not been set, Kandel says the concept is expected to open in about two months. Customers can expect traditional and fusion flavors, with a menu designed to reflect both culinary heritages.
Kava Indian Cuisine represents Kandel’s second San Francisco-based restaurant. His experience with Yarsa has helped him build a following in the city’s North Beach neighborhood, and the Lombard Street location will give him access to a different customer base in a busy corridor in San Francisco. The restaurant’s design and layout are still being finalized, but the space will accommodate indoor dining and a full-service liquor license. The concept aims to combine casual dining with authentic flavors, appealing to locals and visitors seeking both Indian and Nepalese cuisine.
The menu at Kava Indian Cuisine will highlight traditional dishes such as curries, tandoori items, momos, and fusion creations inspired by both culinary cultures. Kandel emphasizes quality ingredients and a balance between classic recipes and innovative flavor combinations. Kandel has a long history in the city’s restaurant scene, and this new location allows him to expand his culinary footprint in San Francisco while building on the success of Yarsa Nepalese & Indian Cuisine.
