Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, the Japanese conveyor belt sushi chain, is planning a new location in Union City at 32170 Dyer St.

The restaurant’s newest location is set to open within the former home of FroZone Gelato and Mountain Mike’s Pizza in the Union Landing shopping center, according to a recently submitted liquor license application. While this proves that an opening could be on the horizon, no specific date has been announced. The Union City location is part of Kura Sushi’s expansion in California, joining four other upcoming sites in the state, including Canoga Park, Orange, San Diego, and Temecula.

Founded in Japan, Kura Sushi has built a reputation for using premium ingredients and adhering to traditional Japanese culinary techniques. The chain emphasizes natural and healthy meals, featuring dishes prepared with imported wasabi, specially blended vinegar for sushi rice, and daily-made broth sourced from Kyoto. The wasabi is preservative-free and uniquely grated to retain its natural texture, while the vinegar and broth are crafted to enhance flavor without overpowering the dishes.

The revolving sushi bar concept allows diners to select plates as they pass by on a conveyor belt, combining a traditional Japanese experience with modern technology. Kura Sushi integrates automated ordering and interactive systems to make dining both convenient and fun. The menu includes a wide selection of sushi, nigiri, hand rolls, specialty rolls, soups, noodles, and desserts. Signature items include the Kura Roll, Rainbow Roll, Tiger Roll, and seared or specialty nigiri featuring salmon, tuna, and scallops.

Union City residents can expect the same high-quality ingredients and authentic Japanese flavors that have made Kura Sushi popular across the U.S. This location is part of the brand’s ongoing expansion in California, which now includes several “coming soon” sites alongside its established locations in cities such as Berkeley, Cupertino, and Los Angeles. With a focus on freshness, quality, and a unique dining experience, Kura Revolving Sushi Bar promises to be a new favorite destination for sushi lovers in Union City.
