According to a recently submitted permit application, Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is opening a new location in Berkeley — coming to 2100 University Avenue, it will neighbor establishments such as Asha Tea House, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Comal.

The Japanese restaurant concept, established in 2008 as a subsidiary of Kura Sushi, Inc., is known for its high-tech approach to service — allowing diners to order on a device at their table and serving them via a conveyor belt.

According to the company website, “Since the first restaurant opening in 1977, Kura Sushi, Inc. has grown substantially with more than 500 locations across Japan, Taiwan, and the United States.”

The menu offers a selection of nigiri, rolls, hand rolls, gunkan, hot and cold sides, udon, ramen, and, for dessert, mochi and soymilk donuts. The website states, “food is prepared using fresh, high-quality ingredients free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives, and colorings.”

An opening date and other pertinent details have not yet been announced. What Now San Francisco was unable to contact a company representative by the time of publication.
