According to a recently submitted alcohol license application, the Chinese-American food dining concept Mamahuhu plans to debut a new outpost in Palo Alto later this year.
Coming to 855 El Camino Real, the eatery will soon be neighbored by establishments such as Boichik Bagels, The Penny Ice Creamery, and the plant-based restaurant and bar by Adriano Paganini: Wildseed.
What Now San Francisco spoke briefly with the concept’s co-owner, Chef Brandon Jew, who shared, “We’re in the construction phase, so it’s hard to make an accurate determination… We’re a couple of months away.”
This will mark Mamahuhu’s fourth outpost in the Bay Area, counting the business’s existing locations in Inner Richmond, Mill Valley, and Noe Valley.
Founded in early 2020, the concept is best known for its gluten-free potstickers; additionally, the menu offers a selection of protein bowls, chicken sandwiches, and sundaes for dessert.
The business shares how it got started on its website: “This is the story of what happens when three friends miss the Chinese-American food they grew up with and one happens to be a James Beard Award-winning, Michelin-starred chef.”
“Chef Brandon Jew was making a name for himself at Mister Jiu’s in San Francisco. Meanwhile, Ben [Moore] and Anmao [Sun] were in Shanghai developing the city’s first organic grocer. When the trio came together, they mostly talked about Sweet & Sour Chicken and potstickers… What came out of it was a deep friendship [and] Mamahuhu restaurants,” the statement continues.
“Mamahuhu is Chinese-American food we’re proud to eat. Mostly organic, but always yummy first,” it concludes.
