Beretta Reopens on Valencia Street with a Stunning Transformation
Beretta has been a culinary icon in San Francisco for 17 years. Known for its thin-crust pizzas and contemporary Italian comfort food, the restaurant has long been a favorite among Mission District diners. Now, after 17 years, the restaurant is embarking on a new chapter in its journey.
The Valencia Street landmark has completed a six-week transformation, reimagining its interior, culinary offerings, and brand identity. The redesign honors Beretta’s legacy while positioning it for continued success in San Francisco’s evolving dining scene.
The refreshed space and menu strike a balance between Beretta’s original character and modern sensibilities. Chef Fredy Lopez revisits the origins of the restaurant, bringing originals to the menu that established Beretta’s reputation 17 years ago.
Meanwhile, the interior design transformed by Nathan Reed takes inspiration from Italy’s “mod” era. The redesign ushers in a bold new chapter while staying rooted in the restaurant’s Italian heritage.
Menu That Blends Tradition with Innovation
The new menu is in collaboration with Chef Fredy Lopez and owner Adriano Paganini. Chef Fredy Lopez, who has been with Beretta since day one, brings deep knowledge of the original menu and flavor profiles that first defined the restaurant. He has worked under the original chef and partner Ruggero Gadaldi for 10 years until his passing.
Now, he pays homage to the origins of Beretta through a thoughtfully curated menu that brings the original flavors back. Locals can now taste the legendary pizza at Beretta with classics like Margherita. Alongside this, creative combinations like the Funghi Misti and the Mortadella Pizza are drool-worthy options.
The menu also features Affettati Misti, along with house-made pastas and risottos that reflect the restaurant’s Italian roots with a modern touch. An extensive Antipasti section with House Foccacia, Eggplant Caponatina with Burrata, and Fagioli Puree adds another touch of deliciousness to the menu.
Complementing the refreshed food offerings, the beverage program reintroduces classic cocktails alongside inventive new additions. Reintroducing signature cocktails and timeless favorites, like the Arcadian, Fool Me Twice, and more. This spirits collection features Italian amari, premium mezcals, and a curated wine list that emphasizes Italian varietals.
New Interiors Bringing a Dramatic Mood to the Restaurant
The redesigned Beretta interior, led by designer Nathan Reed, brings dramatic flair inspired by Italy’s mod era. Bringing dramatic elements to the interior, he draws inspiration from Italy’s “mod” era and retro-futuristic aesthetic. Highlights include a striking red marble bar and oversized modern chandeliers that anchor the space in retro-futuristic style.
While bringing change to the interior, his design pays homage to Beretta’s Italian heritage while embracing a bold, modern aesthetic. The mod era lighting, murals, and seating, and the contemporary mod style tiles all reflect his approach.
These changes have only heightened the experience Beretta is known for. The result is a fresh, new atmosphere that still feels unmistakably like Beretta. The changes bring a new side to the restaurant while keeping things fresh and exciting.
Beretta is now open to the public, Monday to Thursday (5 pm to 10 pm), Friday (5 pm to 11:30 pm), Saturday (3 pm to 11:30 pm), and Sunday (3 pm to 10 pm).
