The former site of the bar Harvey’s and the historic restaurant Elephant Walk in San Francisco’s Castro District has a new tenant, Brut bar, bites & nightclub, according to San Francisco Business Times.

“We truly believe and intend we’ll be changing the footprint of the Castro,” new owner Joshua Cook tells the journal — adding, “We want this place to be around much longer than any of us are.”

Before shuttering earlier this year, Harvey’s — a bar and dining venue known for its trivia and comedy shows, named after activist Harvey Milk — operated at the 500 Castro Street address for almost three decades.

Cook, alongside Alex Lucero and Matthew Mello — all of whom previously worked at Beaux: Cook as the general manager and co-founder, Lucero as bar manager, and Mello as assistant manager — intends for Brut to be a sort of “love letter to the Castro,” he shares with the Times.

According to public records, Brut will offer a total of 3,172 square feet by merging the 500 Castro Street and 504 Castro Street spaces, including a new mezzanine that will overlook the dance floor.

Brut is slated to open in mid-2024. Stay tuned for additional updates.
