Nido, a popular Mexican restaurant near Jack London Square, is reemerging as a new concept called Odin, San Francisco Chronicle first reported. Owners Silvia and Cory McCollow have partnered with Tacos El Precioso owner Devin Gonzalez to reintroduce the space as a mezcal bar with seasonal Mexican fare.

Located at 444 Oak St. in Oakland, Odin is scheduled to open in late May. The bar will exclusively focus on agave-based spirits that will be combined with products from Mexico, such as corn liqueur and cooked corn syrup, to create classic and creative cocktails. The dishes will champion local farms and producers such as Bolita Masa and tortilla pop-up Xulo.

The website notes that Odin is a “Mezcalería con Propósito,” meaning a one-percent surcharge will support Oakland nonprofit Community Kitchens, while the McCollows also intend to donate to Mexican agave farmers.

The McCollows also operate Nido’s Backyard a few blocks up the street. They initially closed Nido during the pandemic, but briefly opened for outdoor dining in 2020. At that point, they decided to completely remodel the space with wooden, onyx and orange tones, complemented with art from young Oaxacan artists.
