According to a pending ABC license found in state public records this week, a new bar called Night Heron is plotting to take over the former Here’s How space at 1780 Telegraph Ave. in Oakland. The record is attached to Cory Hunt, who helped bring to life nearby First Edition, plus Jackalope and Soda Popinski’s in San Francisco.

When contacted, Hunt did not deny his plans on Telegraph Avenue but was otherwise unable to comment. His previous projects are notably theme bars, with nods to comic book villains, video games, and nostalgia. “Theme bars are just super fun,” Hunt told Eater SF in 2019.

This leaves us to wonder if Night Heron will follow suit. Perhaps and ode to the establishment’s namesake? In 2019, the city of Oakland declared the black-crowned night heron its official bird, describing the species as “a resilient bird with remarkable adaptability in urban areas while remaining wild and retaining their natural behaviors.”

Whatever the case, we look forward to seeing what theme Hunt has in store for his next project in uptown Oakland. If we get any updates from Hunt and his team, we will be sure to let you know.
