According to a recent Instagram post, the Michelin-starred restaurant Niku Steakhouse — located at 61 Division Street, near Dumpling Time, Hardwood Bar & Smokery, and Saap Ver Damn Good! — has temporarily closed due to fire damage.
“It’s difficult to follow up news like this with a caption, yet we owe it to our guests and, most importantly, our team to keep everyone updated,” the post begins.
It continues, “Last night, an unexpected fire occurred within Niku Steakhouse. Fortunately, the situation was contained, and most importantly, everyone remained safe and unharmed. However, the damage to our kitchen requires us to temporarily close Niku Steakhouse as we work through this challenging time.”
What Now San Francisco reached out to Omakase Restaurant Group to inquire about their plans for the spot, but they could not provide additional information before publication.
For readers who are unfamiliar with Niku Steakhouse, the eatery offers a brief introduction on its website: “Located in San Francisco’s Design District, Niku Steakhouse is one of the few Michelin-starred steakhouses in the country. Our restaurant is distinguished by its in-house dry-aging program and exclusive cuts of prized Japanese A5 wagyu, along with an emphasis on wood-fired cooking.”
Its menu represents “a true marriage of American and Japanese sensibilities,” with offerings such as “chawanmushi, maitake mushroom confit in wagyu fat, and artichokes with ramps, fermented white asparagus, xo, and mint.”
