Oakland’s Longtime Plant-Based Restaurant Announces May 16 as Final Service Date

Millennium Restaurant on College Avenue in Oakland will close its doors after more than three decades of service. After more than three decades of service, the upscale vegan spot will serve its final meal on May 16, 2026.

In a social media post, the restaurant shared the heartbreaking news of its closure. To celebrate its final chapter, the restaurant team extended an invitation to the community.

Millennium Restaurant in Oakland to Close May 16

A longtime favorite, Millennium Restaurant, known for its plant-based cuisine, announced its closure. The restaurant will permanently shut down on May 16, marking the end of its 32-year journey.

Co-owners and executive chefs Eric Tucker and Alison Bagby have made Millennium a Bay Area staple in vegan dining.

Through a Facebook post, the Millennium team shared the news of the sudden closure. In the statement, the team said, “We are devastated to share that we have six more weeks of Millennium as you’ve known it. Our last day operating in this form, after more than three decades, will be May 16.”

With the announcement, Alison Bagby also shared a candid video explaining, “We had a difficult time in the last few years.” She said, “This isn’t financially sustainable for us anymore. We just aren’t busy enough to keep operating this way.”

The Millennium team said they plan to return soon with a new concept, though details are not yet available.

Millennium Restaurant’s Legacy of Fresh Vegan Innovation

Opened in 1994, Millennium spent over two decades operating in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. In 2015, the restaurant relocated to Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood.

Featuring globally inspired flavors, Millennium focuses on a fully vegan menu made with organic ingredients. The restaurant takes pride in serving farm-to-table dishes made with organic ingredients.

The menu created by Eric Tucker features popular items like coriander and arborio-crusted oyster mushrooms, cauliflower steak, and a variety of salads.

Over the years, Millennium has earned several awards, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition each year for the past decade. It was also named as one of the top vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the world by Huffington Post and Food and Wine Magazine.

After the closure announcement, fans and community members shared their reactions on social media. One fan wrote, “Very sad and sorry to hear this.” We have celebrated so many special occasions and ordinary days here. You’ve been a pillar in the vegan community. Thank you for providing us with such top-notch quality vegan food.”

Despite the closure preparations, the restaurant remains focused on the final weeks of service. As Millennium winds down its operations, it encourages guests to visit the restaurant and celebrate its legacy.
