Oceania Fish Bar, a new seafood concept, is preparing to open in downtown Walnut Creek at 1555 Bonanza St.

The new restaurant is set to take over the former home of the Walnut Creek Yacht Club, which closed earlier this year, according to Diablo Magazine. The project is being led by siblings Mike, David, and Rolla Ghaben. While the restaurant is not expected to open until 2027, construction is projected to begin next year, pending city approval. Customers can expect a seafood-forward fish bar featuring a range of cooking techniques.

Plans for the site call for a substantial renovation of the existing mid-century modern structure. The proposal includes adding 1,360 square feet of new ground-floor space and expanding outdoor seating. A new 1,179-square-foot second-floor corporate office is also planned as part of the redevelopment. The project remains subject to city approval before construction can move forward.

The corner location has longstanding ties to the Ghaben family, having previously housed Hubcaps, Broderick Roadhouse, and Lita, all concepts associated with the group. The site is located in Walnut Creek’s downtown dining core and has been a restaurant for decades. This will be an excellent landing space for the family’s next concept, given the area’s steady foot traffic and established dining history.

Oceania Fish Bar will focus exclusively on seafood, with a menu built around a fish bar format. The restaurant is expected to feature a variety of preparation methods rather than a single regional focus. Additional menu details have not yet been announced.

The Ghaben family brings more than 40 years of experience in the local restaurant industry. Their restaurant portfolio includes Original Mel’s, Batch and Brine, Broderick Roadhouse, Hubcaps, Lita, and World Famous Hotboys. The Oceania Fish Bar project reflects the family’s continued investment in Walnut Creek and its evolving restaurant scene.
